Character
Education Good moral
character is not innate. It requires
individuals to make an effort to teach children values and to make decisions
based on good morals. Character
Education is primarily the responsibility of families and their respective
faith organizations. United Day
School further promotes and reinforces Character Education through the
Morning Flag Program, Chapel Program, CHARACTER COUNTS! SM Program. The CHARACTER COUNTS! Program is
based on Six Pillars of Character 1 that transcend political, cultural, religious and socioeconomic
differences. The following are the
Six Pillars of Character: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness,
Caring and Citizenship. See Appendix
for the definition of the Six Pillars. United Day School expects students
to adhere to the Six Pillars of Character.
Students who exemplify the particular traits of the Pillar are
recognized on a regular basis. Parents
are encouraged to be advocates for good character. The CHARACTER COUNTS! Program is implemented at
United Day School through the Leadership Council. The Leadership Council is comprised of the Director, teachers,
students, parents and the Board of Trustees. 1 CHARACTER COUNTS! And the Six
Pillars of Character are service marks of the CHARACTER COUNTS! Coalition,
projects of the Josephson Institute of Ethics. |
