CHARACTER COUNTS  Trustworthiness Citizens to be honored on Grandparents Day at the beginning of the designated grade level performances PK – 1st grade 8:40 2nd – 5th grade 10:00.  6th – 8th will be honored in their classrooms between 9:30 and 9:45 am.

6th Grade:  Mrs. DeLlano’s 6th Grade Class will be visiting Regent Care on Thurs., Nov. 20th --3:30 to 5:00.

 

6th/7th Grade:  Mrs. Hrncir’s 6th and 7th grade S.S. classes collected 666 T-Shirts which were donated to Mercy Ministries for the Colonias and Battered Women’s Shelter by Sister RoseMary.  Thank you to all who sent in t-Shirts!

 

PTC NEWS:   WBCA FLOAT –thank you volunteers- Tina Ramirez, chair, Sharon Hillier and Lucy Murillo co-chairs.  Volunteers for the various committees- Violeta Perez, Elva/Jay Puig, Cynthia Saldivar, Michelle Villarreal, Jeanette Fernandez, Monica/Ben Puig, Sylvia Gandhi and Julie Wilson. COUNSELOR’S CORNER

 

Keep Tabs on TV Time Research shows that 51% of kids live in homes where the TV is left on nearly all of the time. But inappropriate shows can impact behavior. To monitor your child’s TV time:

Know exactly what she’s watching.

Learn to set your TV’s v-chip to block unsuitable programs.

Set rules about what she can and can’t watch.   (“Watching Television with Your Children”)

GRANDPARENT DAY REMINDER

Our annual Grandparents Day is Tues. Nov. 25.   Parents thanks for all your items and help.  All non-perishable items may be sent now.  All platters may be delivered by 8:00 am day of event, make sure they are labeled.

Schedule: 

Hospitality-  8:30 – 11:30 grandparents only APR

Photos- Grandparent and student: 8:30 – 11:30 Library and C1when students are not in gym for presentation

Performances:

--UDS Band-  8:30 gym

--PK-1st grade students approx. 8:40 – 9:40 gym

--Dance Team and Elementary Cheerleaders approx 9:45 gym

--2nd -5th students approx. 10:00 – 11:20 gym

--6th – 8th classes will have on-going presentations in C2-C6

Parking: 

Grandparents in front and close to gym

Parents please park in the areas furthest away from the building to save the prime, close spaces for grandparents.  Thank you. 

Student Dress: 

Students are to dress in school uniform. 

Notices:

- Your child will not be released to the grandparent unless you have provided written permission on Monday Nov 24

-Parents please make sure your child’s grandparents know the children will not go to eat with them. 

 

8TH GRADE TO WASHINGTON DC:  8th grade Parents - the Standard Medical Information Form and 1st Payment past due. 

 

IDENT-A-KID:  Congratulations to Jeronimo Rojas, 2S, the winner of the bike.  Mrs. Barrios’ class won the Pizza Party for the most participation.  Thank you to Mrs. Ramirez, Mrs. Murillo and Mrs. Hillier for their help.

 

WINTER WEAR UNIFORM—Parent if your child wants to keep their sweaters/jackets on in the building they must follow uniform regulation as per policy-- “In-class Jacket/Sweater: Students must wear the regulation PE sweatshirt, sweater, windbreaker, or solid navy-blue or white jacket/sweater (without any visible logo).  Any other jackets will be put in the backpacks/lockers until dismissal.”  Other outerwear is acceptable for outdoors during flag and lunch but not in the buildings.

 

CONGRATULATIONS- former student Stacy Garza was honored by County Extension Agent-Agriculture
& Natural Resources as the Outstanding Ag. Student at the Annual Farm-City Week Awards Ceremony.

 

CONGRATULATIONS-former student, Lorenza Cigarroa, senior at St. Augustine H.S. was selected to participate in Laredo Noon Optimist Club Annual Youth Appreciation Day hosted each year to teach about city govt.

NATIONAL JUNIOR HONOR SOCIETY NEWS-  Make-A-Wish last chance to send in your dollar(s) The check presentation is Nov 21 by the NJHS officers.  The class with the most money receives a pizza party.

 

BOY SCOUT NEWS:  BOY SCOUT NEWS:  A big thank you to the scouts who posted the colors at "Scouting Bucks Game" at the LEC -  Alex Cerda, Nicholas Garza and Jesus Verduzco. We will have our regular meeting this Wednesday at Ms. Costillla's room. BE PREPARED notebook, scout handbook and Class A uniform. All scouts need to be delivering the popcorn. We will have our hike on Sat., Dec. 6th. Details at the meeting.

Den 3 Wolves: Den Meeting 10 am Nov 22 Christ Church Episcopal - Bring 5 TARGET bags for recycling project & your bike and helmet.  We will be learning about bike safety. 

 

SPORT NEWS:   Kinder and 1st  grade  Basketball League ends this week.  Congratulations to the 7th and 8th grade Girls Basketball teams who won their first game of the season against Cigarroa.  Congratulations to the 7th grade boys Basketball team who won their first game of the season against Lamar Green.  Both 7th and 8th boys and girls basketball teams will play St. Augustine this week. The girls play their game Wednesday, Nov19, at 5:00 and 6:00 and the boys play on Thursday, November 20, at 5:00 and 6:00.  A big thank you to all of the kinder parents who helped with the skating unit. We appreciate your help. A big thank you to Dr. Anguiano and Jed Brown for officiating 5th and 6th grade rollerblade hockey games.

 

MUSIC NEWS:  CONGRATULATIONS TO BAND MEMBERS:  Joseph Lee, Daniel Fernandez, Ji-Hyung Yoon, Maui Cervantes, Amanda Cervantes, Alexa Villarreal, and Hyung-Ji Lee!!  These young  musicians participated  in United Middle School’s  Solo/Ensemble clinic held on Friday and received 1st division ratings!!  This ensemble will also be performing next week for our Grandparents.  Our beginning band is off to a great start!!   The instruments will come home today. Beginning Band will not meet next week, however, the practice goals focus sheet has been enclosed so they know what to work on over the break. Please return this sheet on Dec. 1st  (with minutes bubbled in) so that your young musician will be eligible to receive valuable practice points!!  UDS PATRIOT CHOIR : Please meet us for warm-ups before morning opening song. We have many upcoming performances including:  KGNS caroling, The Opera, and Winter Concert. Please make plans to attend the Holiday Concert rehearsal on Dec. 2nd from 3:15 to 4:15 in the music hall.    

 

Earrings Lost--  4th grade cheerleader took her earrings out for cheer practice and laid them in the APR on the lunch ledge.  If you found them, please send to the office as we have identified the owner.

STUDENT COUNCIL NEWS: Meeting Dec. 11th 7:30am.

 

TEACHERS OF TOMORROW Club News:  First meeting this week during 6th and 7th grade physical education classes. Last year’s officers will make plans to begin helping out in teachers’ classrooms.

 

EARLY ACT:  Will be sponsoring a $2.00 jean day on Fri., Nov. 21th to support “BOTEO TELETON”.  This is an international project for our organization. The proceeds will go to people in Mexico to promote national unity, helping cultures, building rehabilitation facilities, and support organizations that work with the disabled.  Many children at UDS have already been collecting on their own and filling their piggy banks at the mall, Best Buy, Lowes, Toy’s R Us, IBC, Las Minas and Restaurant Marla.

 

SPECIAL THANK YOU for the donation of a dollar counting machine from Jenny Beckelhymer. 

 

GIRL SCOUTS are asking that you clean out your closets and send reusable coats and blankets.  They will be collecting on behalf of Bethany House. See enclosed flyer.
